Global Girl Circle

In celebration of International Day of the Girl, AFRICaide and the 4W Women and Well-being Initiative have partnered to design a program that will enhance gender equality by advocating for girls’ safety and wellbeing and by preparing girls to enter the workforce.

Girls and women are disproportionately underrepresented in leadership roles and decision-making positions in many sectors and in countries across the globe. AFRICaide and 4W plan to empower and support girls in breaking gender stereotypes, defying the norms, and rallying support for their rights and empowerment.

The Global Girl Circle

One element of this initiative is the Global Girl Circle Facebook Page. It is an inclusive virtual group for girls (secondary school to college age) created to share our lived experiences with other girls from different parts of the world. Our interactions will be rooted in the following shared values: Respect, Different ways of listening to one another, Authenticity, Expressing oneself in the language in which one feels authentic, Discretion, and Privacy.

Criteria for admission include: Being a girl in an inclusive sense, Secondary school or College age, Permission from parents or guardians.

International Day of the Girl

October 11 was the official date of the Day of the Girl Summit, and on October 12, 2020 AFRICaide and 4W celebrated the Summit with our first annual International Day of the Girl event. This virtual gathering featured locally- and internationally-based girls and young women who shared with us their experiences in uplifting other girls and women through their work.
